remixing wellness via chakra-informed art

scope & concept
SCOPE:
The scope of the research and art of this project is to investigate DIY healing methods that explore the space in-between personal wellness and art. Spectrasomatics explores a specific gap in wellness and art by discovering new combinations of aforementioned therapies with the chakras and presents them through the lens of contemporary art via video & installation.
There are a plethora of holistic experiences in the world but few, if any, that combine the multi-prong approach of color, sound and somatic movement using the framework of the chakras as interpreted through art.
The research does not review every single different combination and connection of sound and color, or color and movement, or chakras and sounds and color, etc, but provides an overview of pre-existing different methods and artworks. This thesis illustrates how Spectrasomatics remixes and expands upon already pre-conceived methods, making way to developing new combinations and ideas within the set parameters.
Spectrasomatics explores the possible benefits of merging color, sound, and somatic movement therapies with the chakras to create and investigate new art and wellness methodologies.
Spectrasomatics aims to deliver well-designed, artistically-informed holistic experiences as a way to counteract the generic world of consumer wellness.
CONCEPT:
This thesis focuses on using specific parameters to find chakra-informed combinations of color, sound, and movement therapies that can be applied to different virtual and physical experiences merging art and wellness.
Spectrasomatics questions what happens when we combine color, sound, somatic movement and the chakras into virtual and/or physical art experiences?
There are a variety of artworks created as therapeutic art experiments in Spectrasomatics. Video art is the principle medium that conveys both the methodology and results. Artwork results included: videos, costumes, movement methods, and more.

background & research
This section overviews the historical and contemporary uses of each holistic method and reviews artworks associated with each discipline while drawing connections to the concept of Spectrasomatics.

a sample guide and overview of how to apply Spectrasomatics as a practice in daily life. This methodology informs how the subsequent experiments and artworks were conducted.

conclusion
The personal purpose for this study was the artist’s individual search for a way to find new daily wellness practices that are engaging, sensorially stimulating and easily portable.
Studies are inconclusive, requiring further research and investigation into different art-informed holistic combinations. There seems to be potential in finding many new combinations of these therapies that can be administered in engaging and unique ways both virtually and physically, as long as they are well-researched and structured with care.
