Re:Birth
Re:Birth was a 25 minute performance created for Creatures of the Longest Night, a night of puppetry performance at BSP Kingston in 2018, with the Creatures of Yes and Anna Laura Hafner & the Lawyers of Narnia. Projections and lighting by BA Miale.
This performance featured Anna & Eliot O’Clair as performers/puppeteers, and Eli Winograd and LarkKidder as the musical band, Lawyers of Narnia. This show featured a scene of an evil trash-polluting CEO, representing DEATH, who forces his employee to consume consume consume and pollute/throw trash at the audience and all around the stage, creating a psychedelic landfill.
A large vagina puppet the appears, where two monsters are birthed and they instigate the audience with more trash, and this time, candy. The vagina then births the ultimate monster, a huge pole & stick puppet of giant trash creature with googly eyes who dances with its minion assistant. Ultimately the trash puppet reveals who is really puppeting its messy dirty polluted self, and it is none other than the DEVIL. The DEVIL and the Minion then do a dance, where the Devil births random tech objects from its cloth puppet vagina, including the worst of the worst: the cellphone, our current master.
This show is anti-technofuturism, anti-transhumanism, anti-pollution, but not anti-trans in terms of gender identity at ALL - very pro whatever the hell gender you wanna be. This show screams a loud punk rock cry to return to an eco-conscious way of being on the earth, rejecting our endless consumption and pollution that is innate within contemporary capitalist, globalist society.
